Finding the right music

I must find music to use for my music video. In order to do this, I must visit various websites where I can find some unsigned artists. Websites such as 'www.unsigned.com' and 'www.youtube.com'.

I must contact either via email or on their website. I am also prepared to make a twitter account in order to contact them and ask for their permission.

I must explain to them that I am a student and this music video is one my assignments. I believe it would be helpful if I made them believe that I was highly impressed with their tracks and that it would be a pleasure to make a music video for their song.

"Dear (Artist's name),
                                  I am a student in Robert Clack studying Media. We were set an assignment which was to create a music video. In order to do this I had to find an unsigned artist to contact for permission to use their track. I listened to your song and instantly loved it. I would really love to make a music video for your song. Please get back to me when you can, it would be much appreciated.

Copyright

Copyright is the legal ownership granted to the creator of an original peace of work. It is generally the right to copy but most of the time it gives the creator of the work the right to be credited for it. Copyright is important, especially in the case of artists and musicians, because it is what is used to protect their work from being copied without permission. If you're work is copied by others then there could be a loss of profit. 

I believe that Copyright may cause me some problems during my project, mainly because I will metaphorically be running in circles trying to get permission to use a track to make a music video for. This might mean I have to use an unsigned an unsigned artist because there is a lesser likelihood that they will have a copyright on their music. 

My Favourite Music Video: Michael Jackson - Beat It

 I have chosen this because it is very energetic. It is the music video for Michael Jackson's Beat It; a song which is about gang violence and why it should not be happening. The video is useful because it helps explain the meaning of the song. It shows two rival gangs about to fight but then Michael Jackson appears and plays the peace maker. I really enjoyed watching this video because it tells a story and features some very talented dancers. Another reason why this video was so popular is because it features 'The King Of Pop' Michael Jackson; he was at his prime around the time this video was made. The song was a success on its own so the video just made him even more popular. He was very well known for having the most interesting music videos and this video is just proof.   

The Brief

My task is to produce:

• A music 'promo' video
• Up to 5 minutes
• Either working on your own or in group of up to four members

I must also produce:

• A 'digipak' (Six panels) for its release on CD
• A magazine advertisement for the digipak

In addition to my 'promo' video, I will have to produce:

• A critical evaluation
